In London I was struck by how well dressed the business men were, their seemingly natural knack of that British look, think Burberry, think Ralph Lauren, but better, much more elegant, better put together yet so effortless. It was in their nature. Some would call it breeding.

I never liked the office clothes people wore in Sydney, I remember seeing a lot of white jogging shoes worn walking to work with a suit, for men and women. Horrendous! “My eyes!! They burn, my eyes!!!” Ok ok, that was a little over the top, but you have to admit, it’s a horrendous look. Men, at least invest in some black leather sneakers, there are some great dressy and comfortable ones out there. Women, wear flats! Hello!!!

I’ve started working already, it’s 9 to 5, so I’m rushing around at peak hours and well, funnily enough, amongst the jogging shoes, I’m seeing some rather stylish office outfits. Sydney, I’m impressed. You lot aren’t half bad.

I shall be collecting some more office outfits in the near future and bringing them to you.

Just because you work in a corporate office it doesn’t mean you should automatically dress bad and boring. Put a little effort into it, invest in a well cut suit that actually fits you, not 2 sizes too big, because you think a fitting suit looks gay, a baggy suit makes you look so much older. Ladies, buy some flats to walk to work in, not hideous white jogging shoes, even black havianas will do the job.

This all leads to a top secret project I will be starting tomorrow which is office related, it’ll be a new recurring feature I will be doing for xssat here, but not always office related. Oh, I better shut up now before I give everything away. Be patient kids! You’ll see the results soon enough.

I’ve been back in Sydney for just over a week now and what have I done? Nothing :p That’s what heat does to you, it makes you lazy, well, that’s my excuse anyway. I’ve caught up with family and friends, caught up on all the new restaurants and shops that opened up while I was away. I’ve missed the Sydney vibe and you know what I’m almost surprised at how stylish and hip Sydney-siders are! How quickly one forgets. I’m surprised to see the amazingly bad fashion in department stores and the amazingly good fashion in small boutiques. The distance of Australia from the rest of the world serves both as an advantage and disadvantage. On one hand we get trends a few seasons late or they don’t come to our shores at all, on the other hand our laid back lifestyle and the lack of trends create something completely unique. I am so happy to see the smaller and the budding Australian labels doing their own things and doing it so well.

I’m glad to see vintage is still big but not done in obvious ways, I don’t see girls wearing grandma dresses for the sake of wearing vintage anymore. Let’s be honest, not many girls can pull off a vintage sack…

I took a walk around Surry Hills today and a few quick snaps. Summer it makes you dress lazy but lazy doesn’t have to be boring.

I used to be completely against denim on demin, as in a denim jacket with jeans, on girls or guys. However I think I’ve changed my mind, I think when it’s done well it can be a great look. And today, I got two looks that double up on denim and I got to say both look great.

I’ve recently become a huge fan of denim shirt with jeans (see second photo), so I’ve been scouting the perfect denim shirt, but I simply can’t bear the idea of paying over $50 for a new one when I know I can find a nice worn in second hand one. Well guess I got some scouting to do then.

Happy hunting, happy summer!

Sweet winter - Williamsburg

I’m sure you had lost all hope on me, didn’t you? Heh, I knew it! But alas, I’m back after 2 months absence, I am very sorry, but sometimes you just got to concentrate on 1 thing at a time. That 1 thing was traveling for me, for the last 2 months I’ve seen many cities in Europe, the States, Canada, Mexico and Cuba. The amazing cultures in Europe, the energy State side, the nature in Canada, the amazing handcrafts in Mexico and the architecture in Cuba have all inspired me very much and it’ll all feed back into my creative outlets. So… in short, you’ll be enjoying a better blog :p

Right now I am living it up in NYC, that’s right, I got 2 more weeks here and hope to do a lot more style hunting, though I gotta say, this ain’t easy work in the bitter cold winds… nah uh! But someone’s got to do the job. Today I took a stroll in Williamburg and look whom I found! I love her hat, her shoes and the 3 nude shaded items popping the whole outfit. Liking it!

Name: Pia
Occupation: Apprentice stylist (Cristiano Cora Studio)
Describe your style: Feminine, a little scruffy and sci fi.
Favourite fashion label: Chanel couture, Miss Sixty and vintage Givenchy.
Favourite clothing shop: Beacon’s Closet and other shops in Williamsburg.

Pia’s faux fur hat is from H&M.

Speaking of Beacon’s Closet, I went there today, wow! So much treasure here, it was towards the end of my day and I just couldn’t be bothered to look through the huge amount of clothes. However, I did come away with a mint Coach trench long cape for a steal at $65, holy moly! I think I love Williamburg now. Oh you know, I only bought another skirt, vest and 2 pairs of shoes there today.

Remember what I said about how Stockholmians seem to have the perfect formula worked out? How I said “Trendy, tick, sartorial, tick, unique, tick, timeless, tick tick tick!” Well! Here’s more proof for you.

Sartorial - Stockholm

Sartorial - Stockholm

Name: Mathas
Occupation: Medicine student
Describe your style: Eclectic, one half natural country style, one half all black.
Favourite fashion label: Jill Sander, Prada and Lanvin.
Favourite clothing store: Acne

What Mathas is wearing can easily be described as old fashioned, but with a loose t-shirt under the blazer, untied shoe laces, a head of floppy blonde hair, a great smile and a spring in his steps, I have to say, this outfit is nothing but youthful and a perfect autumn look.

Sartorial - Stockholm

Sartorial - Stockholm

Name: Christian
Occupation: Risk management – Key account manager
Describe your style: Classic, a little bit straight edged.
Favourite fashion label: Ralph Lauren
Favourite clothing store: Rose and born (Stockholm)

This does remind me that I can definitely see that American influence in the way men dressed in Stockholm, that preppy, relaxed but grown up look perfected. I dare say they do it better than the Americans.

Interesting how Christian’s outfit oozes a more grown up look than the outfit on Mathas, yet when you look closer at the individual items of clothing, Christian’s actually wearing a pair of jean with a pale denim shirt! Also note worthy is just the 1 roll on the jeans, not 2, which seems to be norm.

Danish boys - Camden Town

When people say the word “Danish”, I think about pastries, the kind of flaky golden bed of perfectly baked puffed pastry topped with custard and apple, or apricots or my favourite sour cherries. Yum! These boys, they are Danish, they are musicians, they dress well, yum! :p

Danish boys - Camden Town

Name: Lasse
Occupation: Musician
Describe your style: Heroin anorexic chic, white trash.
Favourite fashion label: Dior
Favourite clothing store: Vintage, second hand shops.

Don’t you think they are 2 sides of a coin? Claus looks like such a handsome good boy, the kind you take to your mum’s for tea, while Lasse looks like your typical bad boy, the kind you know you shouldn’t go for but you fall for anyway. Their fashion sense seems to be in such different places, yet looking at the 2 of them together, their clothes work together. Actually the silhouettes are very similar, skinny jeans with bolder shapes on top, yet Claus is preppy and Lasse is, let me borrow his words, trashy and layered!

As I write this my mind keeps wondering off to Turkey, yes I’m going there next week >___< I'm envisioning myself lost in Istanbul's grand bazaar, awed by the alien like sights at Cappadocia, tanning on the Turkish riviera, etc etc. The day dream alone makes me happy!

Oh I almost forgot! Claus and Lasse's band is called Sha la las, you can listen to their stuff on their myspace. Enjoy :)

Today, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I take you to a very different world, but it is still in London! A world where I only get glimpses of, today you get a few glimpses too. Knightsbridge is one of the most expensive places in London, according to Wikipedia, 14 out of the 200 most expensive streets in Britain are in Knightsbridge. On street car parking spaces sell for £300,000 on a 94 year lease… Notable residents include: Nigella Lawson, Tom Ford, Hugh Grant, Sean Connery alongside many other aristocrats, royalties, socialites, writers, presenters and models. You get the idea.

There’s a strip of high fashion shops here, Chanel, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, you name it, you got it. And it was here that I did a little bit of street style hunting.

Name: Maria
Occupation: Lady of leisure
Describe your style: Hermes, Chanel when their clothes were simpler, more structured.
Favourite fashion label: None
Favourite clothing shop: Knightsbridge

Maria told me she was a model in the 50s, the height of the House of Chanel, dare I say, a time when sportswear isn’t what it is today. Maria has such elegance and grace, I’d love to have a head of silver hair like hers when I’m old.

An almost all black outfit which makes all the textures stand out, the bright pop of the red Hermes bag is very nice arm candy.

Now last but not least…
