This time last week, I was in Melbourne, probably just finished shooting the second runway show of the night, hopping along to grab a bite before heading back to my friend’s pad at St Kilda because I would’ve been dead tired and eager to see all the shots from the day. How funny that seemed like ages ago but also feels like yesterday. The week was wonderful, lots of running around, a glimpse of the high fashion life. I came away inspired, energised and ready to wear 10cm heels, ALL day, EVERY day!

On my first evening at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival I spotted Hailey, funder of Melbourne street fashion, I introduced myself to her and to my surprise, she’s aware of my blog. Chatting with Hailey were 2 impeccably dressed young gentlemen, I asked to take their photos. They were charming and pretty much in matching outfits. When I interviewed them, they told me they were fashion designers, silly me for not prodding further, it was the next day that I realised these 2 were brothers Tim and Alex of Melbourne home grown menswear label From Britten.

The second evening I bumped into them and again took their photos, they turned up just as sharp as the day before. Their style is… hmm… to borrow their words “Classic with character”, but it’s more, much more. It’s sartorial, simple, yet so youthful, well Tim and Alex are both very young, both in their early 20s I believe. With a successful label already under their belt, these brothers will go far and they’ve only just begun, yet they’ve already achieved much.

I found an interview of Tim and Alex online from a Melbourne paper, in the article they said they created From Britten because they wanted to design and make clothes they wanted to wear themselves. Arh, if only more young men want to dress like these 2 fine young fellows.

In London I was struck by how well dressed the business men were, their seemingly natural knack of that British look, think Burberry, think Ralph Lauren, but better, much more elegant, better put together yet so effortless. It was in their nature. Some would call it breeding.

I never liked the office clothes people wore in Sydney, I remember seeing a lot of white jogging shoes worn walking to work with a suit, for men and women. Horrendous! “My eyes!! They burn, my eyes!!!” Ok ok, that was a little over the top, but you have to admit, it’s a horrendous look. Men, at least invest in some black leather sneakers, there are some great dressy and comfortable ones out there. Women, wear flats! Hello!!!

I’ve started working already, it’s 9 to 5, so I’m rushing around at peak hours and well, funnily enough, amongst the jogging shoes, I’m seeing some rather stylish office outfits. Sydney, I’m impressed. You lot aren’t half bad.

I shall be collecting some more office outfits in the near future and bringing them to you.

Just because you work in a corporate office it doesn’t mean you should automatically dress bad and boring. Put a little effort into it, invest in a well cut suit that actually fits you, not 2 sizes too big, because you think a fitting suit looks gay, a baggy suit makes you look so much older. Ladies, buy some flats to walk to work in, not hideous white jogging shoes, even black havianas will do the job.

This all leads to a top secret project I will be starting tomorrow which is office related, it’ll be a new recurring feature I will be doing for xssat here, but not always office related. Oh, I better shut up now before I give everything away. Be patient kids! You’ll see the results soon enough.

These 2 girls were on holiday in Sydney from Auckland and they still like Auckland better :O I’ve never been to New Zealand, so I can’t be a judge on this issue :D

Don’t they look great? Looking chic, but effortlessly chic, that’s what it’s all about. I love the checkered trousers and the cut off denim shorts matched with cropped tshirt. Thanks girls for bringing some Auckland style to Sydney.
